Mineralscape

Mineralscape is a large body of work representing the geographical pigmentation both land and Aquatics of Devon’s natural occurring pigments.

Over 700 pigments processed labelled and stored to be used in future sculpture projects mainly cobology projects

The pigments themselves although varied and eclectic there are some pigments and clays of importance.

The Bovey basin Ball clay Colour spectrum. these ball clays, rare colours indigenous to locality are only found by keen interest

These Ball clays are mentioned in the 1942 book by Alex Scott, Ball clays of the Bovey Basin .. The range of names to describe the range of Ball clays is very notable as i have processed most of these ball clays..

The Aquatic pigments are also a pause for thought as a 1940s colour pallet comes to mind

These minerals especially the Dartmoor granite clay of which I use a lot is of stoneware properties

and is rich in iron oxides of which I extract and use for other projects.

See Dartmoor Magazine Spring issue 2019 which covers the whole project entitled Mineralscape.
